Nairobi City County school feeding program ‘Dishi Na County’ that was initiated by Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has continued to attract the admiration of leaders who have shown support to the program.
Roads and Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has supported the initiative when he addressed congregants at the AIPCA Bahati cathedral in Nairobi last Sunday before Chief Justice Martha Koome congratulated Sakaja on the initiative, yesterday Monday,during the opening of the four day long Employment and Labour relations Court symposium.
Murkomen said that te children are the future of the country and asked Governor Sakaja to remain focused on his vision for the schoo going childres even in the face of a judicial hiccup, this following the suspension of the program after the High Court suspended its implementation until a case challenging the move is heard and determined.
“The school feeding initiative is a noble course and I congratulate you Governor Sakaja for this move. I know their challenges in court but this will be done. We trust that God also can see the good intentions towards our kids and it will be done,” Murkomen said.
Chief Justice Koome, who is a staunch supporter of Children rights, lauded the governor in her key note speech saying that the Nairobi governor had fpind the best way to serving the children and the feeding program was a step in the right direction.
Lady Justice Mugure Thande on Friday issued conservatory orders in a case filed by Tunza Mtoto Coalition and Education expert, former Nairobi Education CEC Janet Ouko who argued that the program that is expected to cost Ksh.1.2 billion is a national function.
The program that was scheduled to start on the first day of the third term in all primary schools and ECDs in Nairobi may now have to wait.
In their application, the two petitioners said Nairobi County Governor Johnson Sakaja acted against the law in launching the program that they say is the function of the national government.
According to the petitioners, there was no deed of transfer between the national government and the county government in respect of the primary school functions.
