In a bold reaffirmation of its commitment to citizen-centered development, the Government of Kenya, through its Spokesperson Hon. Sen. (Dr) Isaac Maigua Mwaura (CBS), issued a press statement today at the Harambee Annex Media Centre, outlining a series of national achievements and ongoing efforts under President William Ruto’s administration. These include massive strides in job creation, public service reform, environmental restoration, debt management, and economic growth.
Public Service Week: Reclaiming Accountability
This week marked a proactive push by the government to bring services closer to the people. In line with the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), Cabinet Secretaries, Principal Secretaries, and other senior officials were deployed across the country to lead action-oriented service delivery initiatives.
As part of Public Service Week, the government emphasized dignity, courtesy, and fairness for every Kenyan accessing public services. Dr. Mwaura reiterated the administration’s dedication to transparency, professionalism, and accountability, urging citizens to report poor service delivery or corruption to the Office of the Ombudsman.
“Let us all work together as public servants to ensure that we deliver our mandate to Kenyans,” said Dr. Mwaura.
NYOTA Project: A Ray of Hope for Kenya’s Youth
The statement highlighted the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) project, a flagship job creation program launched in partnership with the World Bank. Designed to reach over 820,000 youth in all 1450 wards, NYOTA offers three key empowerment tracks:
- On-the-job training
- Recognition of prior learning (RPL)
- Business startup support
Each selected youth entrepreneur will receive Ksh. 50,000 in startup capital, in addition to training and mentorship. The program ensures 50% gender parity and includes provisions for youth with disabilities up to age 35, with the rest of the beneficiaries ranging between 18 and 29 years. The application deadline is 12th October 2025.
Mazingira Day 2025: Greening the Nation
Today, Kenya marks Mazingira Day 2025 under the theme “Citizen-Centric Tree Growing and Environmental Stewardship.” President Ruto, alongside government officials, is leading tree-planting efforts across the country to promote environmental conservation.
Local schools are at the heart of this movement, with each primary school expected to plant at least 2,000 fruit trees under the #TurudiPrimo initiative. The seedlings are being provided through the National Youth Service (NYS) program.
To date, over 1.06 billion trees have been planted since 2022, moving Kenya closer to its 15 billion trees goal and the ambition of achieving 30% forest cover by 2032.
Debt Management and Economic Stability: Confidence Restored
In a significant financial milestone, Kenya has successfully raised USD 1.5 billion (Ksh. 193.8 billion) from international investors—mainly from the U.S. and U.K. markets—to prepay part of its 2028 Eurobond. This is the third successful sovereign financing round since 2024.
Remarkably, the bond was oversubscribed five times, with investors offering over USD 7.5 billion (Ksh. 967.5 billion). The government secured a favorable blended investment rate of 8.7%, a full percentage point lower than previous rates—reflecting strong international confidence in Kenya’s fiscal management.
These savings are expected to reduce pressure on taxpayers while freeing up funds for development in education, healthcare, and infrastructure.
Historic Customs Revenue Collection
In a further testament to the country’s economic momentum, the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) achieved a record-breaking customs tax collection of Ksh. 85.146 billion in the last month—the highest in the authority’s history. This surpasses the previous record of Ksh. 82.554 billion set in January 2025.
This growth has been attributed to robust trade and petroleum tax collection, reflecting a resurgent economy and improved compliance mechanisms.
A Nation Poised for Transformation
As Kenya continues to advance its development agenda, today’s press briefing underscored the government’s commitment to:
- Enhancing public service delivery
- Empowering youth through enterprise
- Restoring the environment
- Managing debt responsibly
- Fostering economic growth
“These outstanding achievements underscore the government’s commitment towards meaningful, sustained growth for the economy, for the betterment of all Kenyans,” Dr. Mwaura concluded.
