A senior Nairobi City County government is on the spot following accusations that have emerged grievously implicating him official of sexual harassment on female county government workers as well as several liquor business operators.
In an explosive interview, Maureen (not her real name), a city hall worker at City Hall made damning revelations that a senior county official had threatened her of “dire consequences” if she turned down his sexual advances and she is now living in the fear of the unknown.
The said senior officer, who unsuccessfully ran for a Parliamentary seat in 2022 before getting an appointment, by Governor Sakaja, to work in the transport sector and later moved to the business docket has been accused of rampant sexual harassment on county government female workers within his scope of work as well as women in the business sector, particularly bar owners and operators.
An official complaint was filed at city hall by a lady who works at a club along Mirema Drive against the county sex pest who previously engineered an extortion racket in the matatu industry and is now taking the same tactics to the business docket targeting bars
A lawyer by profession, the politician, who tried his lack in the last elections, has been accused of employing arrogance in his work at the senior management level of Nairobi county to the detriment of Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja’s efforts of streamlining the city to make his promised city of dignity and opportunity under his catch phrase of ‘Lazima Iwork”.
The sexual harassment complaint from the bar attendant along Mirema Drive who spoke to us on a condition of anonymity as well as several other women who are yet to file their complaints and the county government worker are painful accusations which Governor Sakaja must address by dealing with his rogue senior officer at city hall.
The said officer is not new to controversy. He has previously been on the spotlight over corruption where it was claimed that he was involved in the illegal sale of matatu stage terminus while he was working in the transport docket.
The Senior official, who prides himself as untouchable, claiming patronage and protection from powers higher than the Governor has been facing accusations from the women, most of who work in the bar and liquor industry with several now threatening to either petition Governor Sakaja to reign on his appointee or they take legal action against the said officer.
In a recent shocking revelation, bar owners disclosed that a senior officer in the business sector has turned the city into a thieves den, demanding bribes of up to Ksh 500,000 each weekend for businesses to operate without disruption. On top of that, establishments are forced to pay exorbitant fees under the guise of licensing and compliance inspections. The illegal demands have become so severe that many businesses are operating on the brink of financial ruin.
Maureen from City Hall as well as the several women who spoke to us along Mirema Drive have now called on Governor Sakaja to either sack his sex pest senior officer or move him from the business docket to another one for them to concentrate on their work.
