Orange Democratic Movement and Azimio La Umoja representatives drawn from Isiolo county and the Upper Eastern region have urged Azimio leader Raila Odinga to propose to President William Ruto the appointment of a person from the region in the upcoming appointments of Principal Secretaries in the newly crafted broad-based government.

Led by Ms. Lenna Nkatha Muriuki, the ODM Leaders led other residents in rooting for Mworia, a 2022 Isiolo North parliamentary aspirant noting that the former Miss President contestant has avidly stood by the Opposition leader and it would be an honor to the people of Isiolo and Upper Eastern which they said is under represented at the national level if she gets appointed a s a Principal secretary.

“As ODM and Azimio la Umoja representatives from Isiolo County, we respectfully urge Hon. Raila Odinga to consider our region, Upper Eastern, for a position in the upcoming appointments for Permanent Secretaries. We would like to propose Lucy Mworia Hsc for this role. She has been a dedicated and unwavering supporter of ODM and Hon. Raila Odinga  for many years, demonstrating her commitment and loyalty to our cause. We believe she would be an excellent choice to represent our region in this capacity” Nkatha said.

While noting that Mworia is a daughter of both Meru and Isiolo, the leaders noted that she has been the face of Isiolo in Azimio la Umoja and Isiolo being a cosmopolitan county, Lucy Mworia is best placed to represent the marginalized area at the national level as well as a great move in inclusivity for the women.

Having been born and brought up in Isiolo, the leaders said that Mworia understands the county residents’ challenges including high unemployment rate, illiteracy, poverty and insecurity and she is the most suited to handle them at the PS level.

President William Ruto is expected to fire at least 15 principal secretaries (PSs) as he consolidates some of the State Departments within various ministries.

The development, which follows the appointment of new cabinet secretaries, will allow President Ruto to appoint a significant number of new PSs, reshuffle existing ones, and send others home as he trims down his government and restructures his Cabinet.

The president, it is believed, wants to reduce the number of principal secretaries from the current 51 to less than 36 in to keep up with his newfound austerity measures through cutting costs and having a leaner administration he can easily run as well as create a government that is inclusive of all people and Isiolo being marginalized has no representative at the top level of the national government.

A peace advocate, education and inclusion champion, Lucy Mworia is credited for her immense contribution in ensuring peaceful coexistence among locals through advocacy, has earned her the name ‘Mama Amani’ Kiswahili that means mother of peace.

Mworia is a champion and advocate of older persons Rights in Kenya under her NGO, The Kenya Pro-Ageing Organisation. As well, she is passionate about child protection and with volatility in the region, he appointment as a PS will help in bringing the issues affecting the region. Mworia return to Kenya from the USA, where she was working in the medical sector as a nurse to help in peace building among warring communities in Isiolo following perennial clashes that had claimed tens of lives and left several maimed.

With many families displaced as a result, she worked with other stakeholders to provide them with food and other necessities. This gave birth to Women for Peace and Development Community-based Organisation (CBO).

Through the CBO, she has sponsored the education of learners from across the county, spearheaded peace initiatives, and championed for empowerment of the minority and vulnerable groups.

She is also passionate about enrolling as many youths to TVETs to deal with idleness and drug abuse that has ruined lives of many and fueled insecurity.
