On Wednesday, July 17, 2024, residents of Parklands protested against a developer who has illegally erected a 16-story apartment along Taza Lane, off City Park Drive, without a proper sewer line.
The developer, Ameey Homes, led by director Yusuf Asker, arrived with over 50 officers from Nairobi County’s Inspectorate Department, Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company (NCWSC) led by Engineer Wachira, plain-clothes police officers suspected to be from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation, and two members of the county assembly, including Fuad Hussein of Eastleigh Airbase.
Their goal was to excavate a sewer line to connect effluents from the illegal building on L.R. No 209/7549 to a small private septic pit located at 209/7547.
This action was heavily resisted by property owners and residents, leading to significant property damage and injuries among some residents.
The invasion and trespass occurred despite a court order halting construction on L.R. 209/7549. Senior officers from the Nairobi City County Government, including County Secretary Patrick Analo and CECM for Lands and Built Environment Stephen Mwangi, have been filing affidavits in court, claiming they are unable to enforce the court orders issued on May 25, 2023.
