Kenya Railways Corporation CEO Philip Mainga to be Arrested for Corruption, Land Grabbing

A lobby group has petitioned the removal of Kenya Railways Corporation CEO Philip Mainga over gross misconduct, mismanagement and corruption allegations.

The petitioners led by Fatuma Shahenza have accused Mr. Mainga of lack of proper documentation in key agreements involving the corporation with external entities has exposed vulnerabilities in the corporation’s governance structure.

They also allege that Mainga is the most corrupt State officer who grabbed Kenya Railways’ land in Kileleshwa and sold to Muslim community and evicted the real owner.

“The irregularities and circumvention of the law that was done by Mainga at the Kenya Railways Corporation. He has commenced an illegal, unlawful and irregular eviction and violation of Court Orders that have been issued by the Honorable Courts. That the he has failed to comply with Court Orders issued by the Honorable Coe Court prompting the Court to issue a warrant of arrest against him,” Fatuma stated in the petition.

The Petitioner states that Justice Wendy Micheni has Ordered the arrest of the Respondent for disobeying a court order over the eviction of a man from a property in Lavington.

“The Honorable Court ordered the arrest of the Respondent (Philip Mainga) and directed that he be produced at the Chief Magistrate Court at Milimani. The said warrant Arrest is supposed to be effected by the Inspector General of Police. The warrant of arrest emanates from the Respondent’s (Mainga) Order that restrained him from evicting Dr Cyrus Njiru from Mzima Springs in Lavington,” further reads the petition

She says that construction of a purpoted development to be known as the Railways city with the potentional of displacing and alienating lawful land owners of their legally acquired properties.

“Mainga breached the Court orders and proceeded to evict him from the premises in Lavington the same day the Order was issued. He is a public servant and should therefore not be allowed to occupy any office more so after failing to comply with Court Orders. Indeed, the Respondent has failed in the Integrity test and as such in flagrant breach of Chapter 6 f the Constitution,” she said during a press briefing at a Nairobi Hotel.
