Nairobi MCAs have issued a stern warning to individuals attempting to interfere with the ad hoc committee investigating the decline in county revenue.
Led by Makongeni ward representative Peter Imwatok, the committee is nearing completion of its investigation, currently at 85%.
The committee has raised concerns about various interferences, including mobilization efforts by the county executive to obstruct the committee’s proceedings and influence the report writing process.
Imwatok emphasized that anyone, including county executive officers, former NMS officers, KRA officials, or legislative county assembly members, found interfering with the committee’s work will be held culpable.
“This a clear warning to the executive; whoever dares to interfere with the committee proceedings will be held culpable. No one so far including the county executive officers, former NMS officers, KRA officials or the legislative county assembly know where the Nairobi Revenue Service system is domiciled, how it looks like, how much is collected on a daily, weekly or monthly basis,” majority leader Imwatok told Journalists on Tuesday.
The MCAs questioned the lack of an administrator for the Nairobi Revenue Service system and expressed alarm over the revenue decline from 12.6 billion in FY 2014/15 to 10 billion a decade later.
Imwatok criticized his counterpart from Waithaka ward for violating the assembly’s standing orders by speaking against the committee’s work.
This follows Minority Leader Kiragu’s comments on national television, accusing the committee of engaging in a fishing expedition with no concern for Nairobi residents.
