Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja and Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino over the last weekend provided the social media users with a verbal brawl that elicited talk on X (formerly Twitter) with the legislator officially declaring that the Nairobi Governor was only ‘warming the seat’ for him.
This spat between Sakaja and Babu is only one of the latest daylight attempts by powerful forces to undermine Sakaja in the running of the country’s most populous county which Sakaja believes are deemed to fail.
Powerful cartels have made deliberate efforts to derail Sakaja’s work in Nairobi by fighting the governor though proxy. It all started when a dubious opinion poll by Insight Strategists Solutions Africa, led by lead consultant and former Nairobi gubernatorial hopeful Ben Mulwa ranked Sakaja at the bottom of Governors’ ratings last week.
The Embkasi East legislator took a swipe at Governor Sakaja terming him a failure to the people of Nairobi and telling him to continue warming the Nairobi seat for him, a move that the Nairobi Governor did not take lying down.
It has however emerged that Babu’s rant on Sakaja is only a tip of the ice-bag in what is an elaborate plan to undermine Sakaja’s administration by powerful faces hiding behind the opposition Azimio La Umoja One Kenya coalition after several failed attempts.
The cartels first descended on Sakaja with fights from members of the Nairobi county assembly which the governor was successful at containing by working with MCA’s from across the political divide. The powers, having realized that the MCA’s had stumbled in the fight against Sakaja move on to sponsor Mulwa to release the fake opinion poll leading to MP Babu’s swipe on Sakaja.
Mulwa’s survey fell on its face as he was badly exposed following revelations that his ISSA poll was politically instigated and the flip side depict a Governor who has, more than previous Nairobi Governors, worked tirelessly in the delivery of services to the county.
The powerful forces hiding under the veil of Azimio used MCA’s to fight Sakaja and duped some Azimio ward reps to believe that they would support them to ascend the powerful position of Majority leader before failing to deliver on the promise. It is the same forces who have now turned into using Babu to fight the Governor in a move that will fizzle out just like the onslaught by the MCA’s was quashed.
The Sakaja administration, despite the onslaught has remained focused and the Governor has declared that no attempts to undermine him will derail his development agenda.
In the last one year, Sakajs’s administration has among other things began milestone programs and projects which tell a different story from the online brawls he faces. The Dishi Na County School feeding program has already been rolled out aiming to feed over 250,000 children with already 88,000 children already benefiting from the program. County health facilities have seen a major boost with the county installing the first ICU facility at a county health facility at Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital among other major developments in facilities around the county.
Sports Facilities have as well received a major shot in the arm with the construction of Dandora stadium, City Stadium, Camp Toyoyo, Woodley grounds and Mwiki grounds
