The Michael Olunga Football Academy (MOFA) bowed out of the 2023 Gothia World Youth Cup in Gothenburg Sweden when they went down by two goals to host city team Gothenburg FC from Sweden but with a bag of experience and important lessons from their maiden appearance at the annual tournament.

The first time participants lost 2-0 to the home side to bring to an end a run that offered the Kenyan side a good experience that has left valuable lessons for the young players.

Affirming that they will be back, MOFA relished the experience gained at the Gothia cup which the club said will make them stronger to face opposition.

MOFA bagged four points from one win and one draw but lost in their two other matches. The Homabay side kicked off their campaign with an impressive goal less draw against IFK Norrköping in their opening match played in the Swedish city of Gothenburg.

In the second match, MOFA lost 3-0 against Deportivo Cali from Colombia.

“It was a tough outing for the boys. Setback but we learn from mistake and rise up and focus on the next game,” said the MOFA tactician George Owoko.

MOFA found their crucial win in their third and final group fixture when they beat Kalmar FC of Sweden 1-0 to bag three points which saw them advance to the quarter finals on four points.

“We are happy for the win. We relive the moment where Omuri’s strike handed us maximum points against Kalmar. The build up from goal post to goal post was great for the team and we are really happy with the thee points, a cleansheet and dominant display of football. We keep working because we know what lies ahead is better,”Coach Owoko said.

MOFA bid goodbye to the tournament in their last 8-match and will now get back to prepare for the next season.

MOFA used the tournament to sharpen their skills and further develop the talents in the youth as well as giving their players the international exposure and chances for scouting.
