Mulama lauds construction of Jericho basketball court

Nairobi City County Governor Johnson Sakaja yesterday, 1st July, 2023 launched a brand new basketball court in Jericho estate, Makadara constituency.
Speaking during the launch of the court, the Nairobi Executive Committee member for Sports, talent, skills development and care Brian Mulama said that developing sports and talent has an effect on the youth who now have a chance to exploit their potentials.
Mulama noted that Nairobi has a wealth of great talent in the youth and the launch of the brand new basketball court was a big success in the county’s plan developing sports.
“The launch of this brand new court by our able Governor His Excellency Johnson Sakaja in Jericho, Makadara Constituency is a big success. We thank the governor for being at the front in developing sports infrastructure in Nairobi,” The CEC for
“Our youth had lost hope and many were slipping in drug abuse but since you started developing talent, the youth now have hope and are working to develop their talent and skills,” Mulama said.
During the launch, which was officiated by Governor Sakaja and also attended by other leaders including the Harambee ward MCA Antony Kimemia also know as ‘Sony’, Vikapu basketball team and Stingers basketball team emerged the champions in the men and ladies categories.
In April, Nairobi City County government partnered with beverage brand company Hennessy to construct a basketball court at Jericho’s Camp Toyoyo in Nairobi’s Eastlands area.
According to Mulama, the construction of the court is helping the youth in the area develop their skills in the sport as the county seeks to nurture sports talent across the county.
The county government under the leadership of Governor Sakaja has been at the forefront in developing sports facilities with the construction of the new state of art Dandora Stadium and the building of a football field and county social hall in Mwiki ward ongoing among many others.
“This is a very welcome move for our youth to have sports facilities to play and grow their talent which is a form of employment world over,” Mulama noted.
