The 2023 annual Ligi Ndogo East Africa Cup is set to be held this July as talented young football players again converge to compete for the ultimate prize.
Registration for the tournament closes today, 30th June, 2023 ahead of the action which is scheduled to be held on 17th and 18th August at the Polo Club Jamhuri Park in Nairobi.
Teams that are yet to register have been urged to take the last minute dash and register for the epic tournament which is the best organised youth age groups’ tournament in the region.
To register, teams are advised to access the registration portal at http://www.ligicup.ligindogo.com/?fbclid=IwAR3i7JxXEFC3-NX52c_VLbZhazBJ2PP5iWuoiIyTZCwNQk1BmL6FiqPJn6Q and fill in their team’s details which include completing all registration formalities and making a payment of Kshs. 5,000/- for local teams and $100 for international teams in registration fees.
Chief Organizer and Ligi Ndogo founder Chris Amimo notes that this is an opportunity for young talent to showcase their talent and to further nurture the football potential in Kenya.
“We are happy that this tournament is back with us. It is a chance for our talented kids to showcase their talent and we are proud that over the years, Ligi Ndogo has managed to be the best tournament in the region in terms of organisation, talent discovery and mentorship,” Amimo said.
“Ligi Ndogo organises trips to participate in countrywide tournaments as well as international cups and tours. Ligi Ndogo is opening up an early opportunity for you to be part of these exciting tours and tournaments that could open up doors for your football career,” He noted.
Over the years the tournament has been a great attraction for teams from Tanzania and Uganda as well as a long list of Kenyan academies.
Initiated in 2005, the East African tournament is quickly emerging as the premier boys’ and girls’ competition in East Africa. It has attracted teams, schools and academies from Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi; and now Somali and South Sudan. The tournament features age groups 8 to 17. Any young player between the ages of 9 and 18 is eligible to participate.Girls participate in the U16 category.The first two days feature a preliminary round.The third day features teams that made it to the knockout round. As is traditional, the class A games (U9) are played on the final day.
