Corruption at Kenya Railways: Workers Urge EACC to Act Swift on Mainga’s Illegalities

The Kenya Railways Corporation Managing Director Philip Mainga is facing a backlash as workers joined by their former colleagues have expressed their concerns over the corrupt leadership in the parastatal since the entry of the current its incumbent CEO.

The parastal has recently been a household name due to graft cases and mismanagement where billions disappear only to benefit a few individuals.

Recently former public servants are facing the law for graft and just yesterday former Kiambu governor Ferdinand Waititu was charged with corruption which raises the concern of if the president has started his war against corruption as He promised.

In a statement , the workers have condemned threats they receive from the director for leaking information about him which should be in the public domain.

They further call on the auditor General and Ethics and Anti-corruption commission to investigate railways transactions and accounts and get records of the parastatal for the last 4 years.

Mainga is said to have been operating the parastatal to its death bed and within no time our railway system will be no more.

Many issues of concern including illegal tenders and illegal appointments have been highlighted by the group and they want Mainga to step down and give room for investigations to be done.

The president recently said he will ensure that this year every parastatal will perform well enough to raise revenue and his war on graft across government agencies and parastatals will be felt this year.

“I will ensure every parastatal delivers to its maximum and my war against corrupt officials has just begun including former government officials who escaped with public funds”
