Nairobi ODM Party Chairman George Aladwa has recently announced his support for Embakasi East MP Babu Owino as his preferred candidate for the Nairobi gubernatorial race, despite previously endorsing the current governor, Johnson Sakaja. This shift marks a significant turn in the political dynamics within the ODM party.
Aladwa, known for his influential role in Makongeni, is appealing to the Luo community to back Babu Owino, urging them to disregard directives from ODM leader Raila Odinga. He believes the Luo community is ready to assert their political future independently.
“Luo Nation, be smart and don’t be misled by ODM and Raila. The best candidate for the Nairobi governor post is Babu Owino,” Aladwa told a crowd, emphasizing the need for the community to support Babu Owino over other ODM candidates.
He further stated, “As a Luhya, I support Babu here in Nairobi. The Luo community has supported me, and now we don’t want anyone else in ODM trying to impose their will on us. Let those ODM tricksters stop their nonsense.”
Aladwa’s endorsement came during an event in his Makadara constituency, where he hosted Babu Owino over the weekend. This development is likely to influence the political landscape in Nairobi, potentially altering alliances and voter support ahead of the gubernatorial elections in 2027.
