Former Machakos Deputy Governor Bernard Kyala Vetted for a Nairobi Chief Officer Position

By Rose Odinga

The controversial former Machakos County Deputy Governor Bernard Muia Kiala has been vetted for a chief officer position in Nairobi County Government.

Kiala told the legal and justice committee that he brings to the county his vast experience in banking and the office of the deputy governor to establish and manage the barrows in Nairobi.

“I have an understanding of this position and I’m suitable to hold this office. A barrow is the basic unit of an administration and it brings services closer to Nairobians,” Kiala responded during the vetting session at City Hall on Monday.

An MCA who soughted for anonymity told our team that Mr Muia is not fit for the position for his involvement in feuds during his tenure as the deputy governor.

“This man was impeached barely a year after the 2013 general election, he was accused of gross misconduct and abuse of office when he decided to board a matatu to travel claiming that his vehicles had been withdrawn. However in CCTV pictures released by the then Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua, a man said to be Kaila is seen boarding a Subaru which was allegedly issued to him as his number plate is altered,” the MCA said insisting that it will be hard to work with him if approved by the Assembly.
