By Shadrack Nyakoe

The Nairobi County Assembly has successfully passed the supplementary budget for the financial year 2023/2024 with unanimous support.

Amidst heavy rainfall causing havoc, the Budget and Appropriation Committee has allocated Ksh. 240 million to address the effects of the downpour.

Wilfred Odalo, the chairperson of the committee and Mabatini Ward representative, dismissed rumors circulating on social media regarding the allocation of Ksh. 10 billion to a few law firms. He clarified that only Ksh. 80 million has been allocated for legal fees.

Odalo emphasized that the passing of the budget marks the adoption of the appropriation Bill, to be implemented by the county executive.

The supplementary budget prioritizes key sectors such as the ward development fund, bursaries, health, and agriculture to ensure comprehensive city development and welfare.

A breakdown of the allocations includes Ksh. 120 million for bursaries to support education, Ksh. 100 million for road infrastructure improvements, and Ksh. 300 million for effective garbage collection within the city.
