Nairobi, March 3, 2024 – In a hearty address to the nation, Kenyan businessman and politician Jimmy Wanjigi has highlighted mounting concerns over the country’s economic trajectory and political landscape. Speaking during a presser in Nairobi on Sunday afternoon, Wanjigi has accentuated the challenges facing ordinary citizens, calling attention to the government’s handling of public debt, security issues, and the shifting focus of political agendas.

Wanjigi expressed dismay over the staggering increase in Kenya’s public debt, citing recent reports indicating a borrowing spree that surpasses previous records. The national treasury’s submission to parliament revealed a borrowing of 768 billion shillings in just six months, far exceeding the approved limit set by parliament. He condemned what he termed as an “illegal” practice, warning against the dangers of a debt-driven economy that enslaves its citizens.

Furthermore, Wanjigi lamented the decline in usable foreign exchange reserves, indicating a lack of confidence in the national currency. He questioned the government’s ability to stabilize the economy and address fundamental issues such as inflation and the cost of living.

Turning his attention to the political arena, Wanjigi criticized the focus on power struggles and personal ambitions rather than addressing the people’s concerns. He expressed disappointment in the diversion of the political agenda, particularly within the Azimio coalition, where the focus shifted from championing the people’s interests to jockeying for positions of power.

In a bold statement, Wanjigi called out prominent political figures, including Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka, urging them to prioritize the nation’s interests over personal ambitions. He emphasized the need for new leadership and a departure from the status quo, highlighting the failures of the current administration and its inability to enact meaningful change.

Wanjigi’s address resonated with many Kenyans who have been grappling with economic hardships and political uncertainty. His call for unity and resilience struck a chord with those seeking genuine reform and a brighter future for the country.

As Kenya navigates through these turbulent times, Wanjigi’s message serves as a reminder of the resilience and determination of the Kenyan people. Despite the challenges ahead, his unwavering commitment to achieving real change offers hope for a better tomorrow.
