The spotlight is on Boniface Nyamu, the Chief Officer of Mobility and Works in Nairobi, as bribery allegations surface, leaving county residents frustrated with the disorder in the city.
Nyamu stands accused of exacerbating chaos by collecting bribes from illegal and unlicensed stages along Mfangano and Tom Mboya Street sabotaging Governor Sakaja’s efforts to restore order in Nairobi.
Matatu operators along Tom Mboya Street claim Nyamu’s agents frequently extort money from pickup points, threatening replacement by a different Sacco for non-compliance.
“We are made to pay some amount of money frequently by the chief officer mobility. This money does not go to the county government but individuals who claim to be representing Nyamu
Nyamu has facilitated an increase in Tuk-tuks operating from CBD to various routes, contributing to disorder along Ronald Ngala Street, OTC area, and Tom Mboya Street.
Despite the allegations, Nyamu boasts of being untouchable, allegedly enjoying protection from high-ranking officials within the ruling party, including Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
