Justice Jacqueline Kamau seeks to Replace Majanja in the JSC as Elections Looms

Hon Lady Justice Jacqueline Kamau, will contest for the position of Judicial Service Commission (JSC) Representative in the upcoming elections.

The current occupant of the office, is Justice David Majanja. His tenure comes to the end in May 2024. We are yet to establish if he will seek reelection.

Lady Justice Kamau is a former President of the Kenya Magistrates and Judges Association (KMJA). She is also a member of the International women Association of Judges(IAWJ) and a reknown arbitrator.

The entry of the Vihiga based High Court Judge has found many prospective candidates flat footed. We can reveal that many have been forced back to the drawing board.

There’s a lot of anxiety in many camps. Many have called their key advisers and strategists to understand how best to handle the situation.

Those we spoke to, on condition of anonymity, say the learned Judge has an early advantage over her opponents. Many say that she’s aggressive and no pushover. Being a female Judge, most women Judges and Judicial officers are likely rally behind her.

If elected, she will represent KMJA in the powerful JSC. The Constitution of Kenya, 2010, requires the Association to elect one Judge and one Magistrate to the JSC. It does not indicate which gender is to represent the body at what time. It means the decision lies with the members at the ballot.

” The Judge has been lobbying for this position as early as January this year, she has spoken to several Judges, magistrates and some Kadhis who have affirmed their support to her bid, she has vowed to use all she has at her disposal to win the seat,” a source close to Kamau’s circle told this reporter.
Our efforts to get Kamau for the comment failed to bear fruits as she never received our calls during the time of publishing.

The succession at JSC has caused many sleeplessness nights. We have also learned that the current squabbles at KMJA have to do with JSC Succession. It will be interesting. Keep it here for more updates.
