Sakaja leads MPs, MCAs in condemning Azimio’s demonstrations
Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has today led political leaders from both the rulling Kenya Kwanza and Opposition Azimio la Umoja One Kenya in condemning the anti government demonstrations that have turned ugly.
Speaking after attending church service at AIPCA Bahati Cathedral in Nairobi’s Makadara constituency, where Roads and Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen led in the Church fundraising drive, Sakaja said that the bloody protests that have been ravaging different parts of the country are not a solution to the grievances put forward by the opposition calling on Nairobi residents to shun the protests and join in working towards development.
Sakaja was in the company of CS Murkomen and a host of Members of Parliament from different parts of the country as well as over 50 MCA’s in Nairobi from both the Kenya Kwanza and Azimio la Umoja sides who all were in unanimous support of Governor Sakaja’s sentiments against the opposition demonstrations.
Noting that Nairobi City has been the hardest hit in the protests, Sakaja asked the resident of Nairobi to shun the demonstrations as they were only destructive at a time when Kenyans are faced with hash economic times.
“As Nairobi Governor, I want to say categorically that Nairobi belongs to all of us and we have no place for violence. What you fear that will happen from Wednesday will not take place. We will protect the people of Nairobi and their businesses. That is my commitment to you,” Sakaja said.
“These violent scenes and theft will not help anybody. It is important for the country to move in one direction Kenya is going through hardships. Things are tough but our problems will nit be solved I five months. We must take hard decisions nd that is what President Ruto has done.He has taken hard decisions and I want to assure you that there will be fruits in the end,” Sakaja noted.
Sakaja criticized opposition Azimio for the demonstrations telling them to desist from destruction and give the President time to work.
“You can not claim to love this country and then go on destroying the same country you claim to love. Nairobi needs services and it is important for the country to move in one direction,” the Governor added.
Sakaja supported President Ruto’s hard stance against the demonstrations saying that Nairobi County will not be used as a battle ground for the illegal demonstrations which have been leading to loss of lives and destruction of property.
“We are working hard to create an environment for our people to do business and Nairobi will not sit and watch as a few selfish leaders destroy the economy with this maandamano. We will protect you and wont allow the protests to go on destroying property and businesses,” Sakaja said.
CS Murkomen lauded Governor Sakaja for working with MCA’s across the political divide in delivering development to the people of Nairobi. Saying that Sakaja, like President Ruto had embraced the Azimio like minded leaders to take the country forward, Murkomen asked leaders to all unite for the sake of the nation.
The Roads CS condemned Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga over his sustained call for demonstration saying that the government won’t allow athe demonstrations again.
Umoja one MCA Mark Mugambi, the Nairobi County Assembly minority whip, said that the theft and wanton destruction of property in Nairobi was unacceptable. Mugambi said that the over 50 MCAs present were ready to marshal support to conter the demonstrations and protect the businesses of those who are against the maandamano.
“We can be able to marshal our supporters to protect our businesses. Nobodyhas the monopoly to violence and we can as well be able to raise goons in equal measure to rise and protect businesses against destruction,” Mugambi said.
More than 20 Azimio MCA’s who were in attendance supported the sentiments of governor Sakaja noting that demonstrations are not a solution and that the maandamano are only aimed at benefiting individuals who have refused to accept defeat.
Nairobi based communications expert Kennedy Okaka who attended the church service supported Sakaja’ s sentiments noting that the country needed leaders to come together and work to improve the lives of all Kenyans as opposed to the destructive demonstrations being propagated bug the opposition to di-stabilize the government.
“I completely agree with the Governor’s sentiments. It is crucial that as a nation, we join forces to improve our country. Particularly now, when some leaders are working diligently to propel the nation forward, it is disheartening to see others exacerbating the burden by pulling the country backwards for the sake of personal interests. This behavior is not only wrong but also unpatriotic,” Okaka said.
Embakasi North MP James Gakuya, Nyeri Woman Representative Rahab Mukami, Ruiru MP Simon King’ara, Kangema MP Peter Kihungi, Njoro’s Charity Kathambi, her Gatundu North counterpart Elijah Njoroge, Dagoretti South’s John Kiarie, Embakasi Central’s Benjamin Gathiru Mejja Donk Nominated Senator Tabitha Mutinda and Nyandarua senator John Methu were among the dozens on MPs who attended the service and fundraiser.
