Nairobi Members of County Assembly (MCAs) from the Azimio La Umoja coalition have expressed their support for Raila Odinga ahead of his return to Kenya from his tour in Poland.
The City legislators have paid allegiance and expressed loyalty to him hinting to support his next political move in the bid to rescue Kenyans from the high cost living inflicting citizens as the government impose unfriendly taxes with the recent signed finance bill.
They have united front within the Azimio La Umoja coalition in Nairobi to potentially strengthen Raila Odinga’s position and influence in the region.
The MCAs belong to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), Wiper, and Jubilee parties. They have affirmed their loyalty to Raila Odinga and stated that they cannot be influenced or bought by other political groups, specifically mentioning Kenya Kwanza.
Led by majority leader Peter Imwatok, the Azimio MCAs have made it clear that they will not allow anyone to tarnish the name of the county assembly and have declared their unwavering support for Raila Odinga.
They emphasized that unlike Members of Parliament (MPs), they cannot be swayed.
“We are the majority in Nairobi and are prepared to confront anyone who attempts to challenge them. We encouraged our supporters to show their solidarity by attending the Kamukunji rally, which will be held upon Raila Odinga’s return,” MCA Imwatok stated.
They have also expressed their intention to welcome him at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) and accompany him in a grand procession to the Kamukunji Grounds.
During the public engagement forum scheduled for Tuesday, Raila Odinga, along with other Azimio leaders such as Martha Karua and Kalonzo Musyoka, will address the issue of the Finance Bill for 2023.
They aim to debunk the tax increases proposed in the bill.
Further, the MCAs have called upon the police to provide security for Raila Odinga’s journey from JKIA to the Kamukunji grounds.
They have assured the authorities that they are law-abiding citizens and seek protection during the planned events.
