Kenya Fatwa Council Launched in Kenya

The Kenya Fatwa Council was yesterday unveiled in Nairobi to assist in giving rulings according to modern times away from traditional institutional rulings that most of the time are based on a particular institution.

Based on Quran and sunna, Fatwa shall be pronounced according to person, place and nature of the events such as Ibada, business, finance and social happenings.

The council will work with Muslim body Supkem, CIPK, Kadhi court and other notable and revered Muslim Scholars.

Led by Tanzania head of Islamic Faith (Mufti) Sheikh Abubakar Zuberi, they said council will assist Kadhis and chief Kadhi office on matters of moon sighting.

“As we are working with the East African Moon sighting commission, we will always be on call whenever they need us. We have the modern tools for moon sighting which compel the council to form a regional body to oversee the same,” Zuberi said.

The council’s chairperson, Sayyid Ahmad Badawy Jamalullayl stated that they will act as peacemakers and preach it and will ensure right rulings are reached at on Islamic matters.

“Our doors are open to criticism for the council to grow, with elders on the wheels all shall be well,” said Badawy, “We are assuring you that our arms are open to all and we pray for the success of this body for the good of all Muslim and Umma and the country at large.”
