In 2021 ,the unemployment rate in Kenya has increased by 0.3 percent since 2020.
The employment problem is a global and present a particularly difficult labor market experience for youth.Youth in Kenya are experiencing much higher unemployment rate than the rest of the Kenya population.
According to research done by National statistics Kenya, the labor market is full of graduates but lack of employability skills for mostly young men and women in Kenya.
Therefore the organization has decided to come up with an EmployAble Programme to train and sensitize young people in education and vocational training institutions to create enough opportunities for the young population.
Mrs. Mary Mugo ,the Country Director Edukans International say the aim of Edukans is to provide training,Market driven projects to transform the lives of unemployed youths in order to provide and to increase productivity across all communities.
“Businesses need skilled personnel youths who are focus to the future labor market and have good education,who can create opportunity to others and have practical experience after school,” she said
Therefore she said the young people need to adopt to the labor market demand in order to stay relavant to the employment sector.
Edukans is a international Non-governmental organization which provide marginalized children and youngsters around the world with basic education and vocational training.
Mrs Mary says the organization has come up with a programme project ” EmployAble Programme” this program provide quality TVET education trainings to the youth, people with disability for them to either become employed or self employed.
“The labor market is very crucial and with the increasing disability awareness and creating of employment opportunities it helps us to appreciate the diversity in the workplace”, she adds
Mrs Mary says Edukans has worked on with various projects in Kenya since 2007 and understand employment creation is key,we have worked with education institutions including Universities and Vocational training institutions like TVETs.
Currently the Edukans have got many projects across Africa including Ethiopia, Malawi,Uganda,Ghana as well as Kenya.
In 2020,the Edukans through its EmployAble Programme Initiative was able to create over 10,000 self employment to young men and women in Africa.
