Nairobi leaders have been asked to fast-truck promises made to women and teenage girls on health

The grassroots civil society organizations under the umbrella of MNH coalition of Kenya have call for increment budget in ending the teenage girls pregnancy syndrome in Kenya.

Nairobi County representative on Health matters.

The group has asked the county to increase the supply of essential commodities in the public health centers and plans to end teenage pregnancy by end of 2030.

“Our women and girls are suffering because of low supply of enough commodities mainly ambulance on time,lack enough trained nurses, no medical facilities available for usage, therefore between 15 -19 years girls have unsafe abortions,high rate of teen pregnancy and loss of lives across the county,” Ms Everlyne Bowa, Chairperson MNH Coalition explains.

Health Stakeholders meeting

According to Nairobi Governor Hon. Sakaja promised to construct a blood Transfusion Center to promote access and availability to safe blood especially for the vulnerable mother during childbirth and pregnancy.

The organizations were speaking during commemoration of UHC coverage programme in Nairobi.

Ms Everlyne Bowa, Head of MNH coalition said there’s an argent need by Nairobi county to speed up service delivery at the ward maternities she said services to women and girls should be given much priority, adding that some hospital like Mama Lucy Hospital is overwhelmed and other hospitals should be upgraded for usage.

The group have also asked the county to improve youth facility centres to engage youths on adolescent sensitizations.

Currently Nairobi County health committee is finalizing it’s county Integrated Development Plan (CIDP) 2023-2027which they plan to address key challenges facing health services.
