Data governance and it’s significant strides in Kenya

Over 2021,Kenya have been subjected to several breaches of their personal data.

This event after Data Protection act was enacted three years ago.The conference will offer ICT an opportunity to address sector players on its priorities.

Speaking during a meeting with data governance stakeholders, Cabinet Secretary ICT Hon. Eliud Owalo said the Kenya information technology sector has grown and evolved with significant progress being made regarding the collection and processing and use of data,” he explains.

According to Amnesty international, almost 67% of Kenyans were unaware of data protection Act and 82% were also unaware of the office of the Data Protection commissioner of 2021, however 90% of Kenyans want information about the of the Data Protection.

IEBC Kenya election body , was hacked by criminals over 61,617voters in the last general election as a result of unprotected data.Due to that mismanagement, of Office of the Director of Prosecution has received 1,030 complaints from the public and at least 555 cases out of this 54% are against digital lenders.

Event was attended by several frontiers including Amnesty international among other partners.The event will also culminate the launch of Council for Responsible Social Media the council will help champion for a national dialogue on Bio-tech accountability.
